Cleaning and Protecting Your Pool Table
So Cal Pool Tables

At So Cal Pool Tables, we understand that your pool table is an investment in future entertainment. It doesn't matter if you're a casual player or a competitive professional, your pool table is a valuable centerpiece to any game room or lounge. That's why we want to help you keep your table in pristine condition for as long as possible by keeping the wood, the felt, and the leather pockets spotless and stain-free. We talked about keeping the felt clean in a previous blog, so here are some tips to help keep other parts of your pool table clean and ready for use.

  1. Keep the wood structure clean

The wood supporting the pool table should be treated like any other piece of fine wood furniture and isn't difficult to clean. Using a mild lemon oil, you should dust and reinforce the finish of the wood surface often enough to keep up with how often you use the table. Any visible dirt or spills should be immediately wiped off with a clean, barely damp cloth. Never use glass cleaner on wood surfaces, as it damages the finish.

  1. Caring for the leather pockets

Leather should be treated with care, protecting it from heat and direct sunlight to keep it supple and flexible. Dust the pockets frequently with a damp cloth and mild soap when needed. They can also be cleaned with saddle soap or other leather treating materials, although the pockets should be wiped down thoroughly to prevent ball and felt blemishes. Avoid storing pool balls in the pockets for long periods of time if at all possible. If you do, distribute them evenly in all the pockets to help keep the pockets from being overly weighed down.

  1. Pool cues and pool balls

Pool balls don't require too much maintenance, usually just a wipe down with a damp cloth. Occasionally, it might be a good idea to give them a cleaning with specialty products that remove oils. Cleaning pool cues can be done in much the same way. They should always be stored upright, as leaning them against walls can warp the wood and make them bend.
