Choose the Right Wand: 3 Things to Consider When Buying a Cue Stick

So you’re popularly known as a wizard of the pool game. But don’t you feel something essential is missing without your cue stick? After all, how long a wizard is going to use a common, shared wand to showcase his magical pool playing powers. If you’re planning to buy your cue stick, the following are some particulars to keep in mind while making a final purchase.

1. Weight

Some players are extremely specific about the cue’s weight because it helps them smoothly play their favorite shots. As most pool cues weigh between 17 to 21 ounces, which one do you pick is completely dependent on your comfort level? The best way to figure out is by holding the stick. Since most of the cue weight is in its butt end, examine how heavy it feels. If your backhand feels a heavyweight, you’d probably need to pick lighter one.

2. Length

A cue’s length is extremely important as it could make or break your gameplay. While picking up a stick, determine the length which is perfect for your game. To get full control, make sure the cue stick fits the length of your arm. If your height is somewhere in between 5’8’’ to 6’5’’, try 58 inches for a two-piece cue. In case, your height is more, consider placing a special order to get a cue of up to 61 inches long. For people with a height below 5’8’’, a cue length between 28 and 52 inches does the wonder.

3. Cue Tip

The front-most part of a pool cue is important as it makes contact with the ball. You must look for a cue tip that supports your game style. While a soft tip easily wears out and doesn’t last for long, it suits best to put a spin on a ball when taking a shot. On the other hand, a hard tip is long-lasting but isn’t counted good for spin shots.

Make sure to remember these three points before you settle the purchasing deal of a cue stick.
