Pool tables aren’t that cheap. And now that you’ve dropped some serious money on getting one for your home, there is one important thing that you need to do, and that is learning how to properly take care of it. Luckily, pool tables are created for a low-maintenance lifetime of fun, so once they are installed; you do not need to do much. However, there are a few precautions that you can take to ensure that you are able to enjoy yours for a long time. And that includes not doing the following things at the table:
Do not keep food or drinks on the table
It is common for people to play pool while they are sipping on some beer or snacking on finger food. It is okay to eat when you are playing, but do not keep food or drinks directly on the table or the rails. Spills can immediately stain the felt on the table, which can speed up deterioration at the affected spot.
Do not sit on the rails
Sitting on the rails will not just damage the rails but also affect other parts of your pool table. When you sit on the rails, it can cause the wooden portion and the cushions to come apart, which can lead to the cushions becoming saggy. This can affect your play because it might prevent balls from rebounding properly or even cause them to jump up.
Do not attempt rough play
Slamming shots into the pockets may seem like a cool thing to do but that can inadvertently end up damaging your table. The force can make the ball bounce back from the back of the pocket and hit the edge of the slate, which can cause tears in the cloth. This is one of the most common reasons for the cloth getting damaged because even a small tear will become big over time, requiring you to replace the whole cloth.
