Investing in a piece of furniture is always a good idea: each piece you buy adds a facet of your unique style to your home, and of course, the furniture you invest in is meant to serve a function: whether it be used for storing items in, dining on, sitting in, or as a decorative item. Gaming tables are a type of furniture that not only add an element of fun to a house, but also serve as a piece used for entertainment purposes. And let’s face it; they also make sweet additions to your rec room or man cave. Aside from your standard pool and shuffleboard tables; a Poker Table can provide hours of fun (and maybe even some extra cash) for you and your friends. Of course, now that you’ve invested some of your hard-earned (or won?) cash into buying your poker table, you also need to invest some time and effort in keeping it clean and well-maintained. To this end, your friends at So Cal Pool Tables would like to give you some pointers on how to care for your latest investment.
Beware the snacks – Snacks are a vital part of game night. However, to keep your poker table clean, we recommend getting one of those snack/drinks carts that will keep the snacks away from the table. And while you’re at it, maybe you can get snacks which don’t leave any stains on the table. Glasses on the cart, please!
Keep it clean – In the event that someone does mess up the table with snacks; use a small brush (perhaps a lint brush) to remove food debris, such as chip and bread crumbs. You can also use a microfiber wipe in place of a brush. Then, vacuum the dust off of the table using a handheld vacuum cleaner. Be gentle with brushing and vacuuming; and for heaven’s sake, don’t use the vacuum for your floor: aside from just being gross, the larger motor may pull the felt away from its backing.
Eliminate stains – Felt is also easily stained by drinks. Use a small cleaning towel for blotting out the liquid on top of the surface first. Then, use a vinegar-water solution to blot out the stained area. Don’t use too much of the solution on your towel; as the excess liquid will soak through the backing. Once the stain has been dealt with, allow the felt to properly dry. Speed cloth; unlike felt, is completely water-resistant, so stains on this surface only require you to blot and absorb the spilled liquid as soon as possible and allow it to dry before using the table again.
Love that Felt – Felt is prone to pilling, but you can reduce this by using a pumice stone to gently smooth the felt and remove pills. However, no matter how gentle you smooth the felt, pumice (even fine-ground pumice) is abrasive, and will eventually wear out your felt. Have your felt replaced when this happens.
Store and maintain – Every once in a while, check the table to see if there is any wearing and tearing on the vinyl or the leather. Check the wood to see if there are any chips. Check the legs. Store the table in a safe place, or cover it with a soft cloth; like flannel, to protect it when not in use.
